A 1940s home in the charming Davisville Village neighbourhood has undergone a remarkable transformation to accommodate a family of four. Once a modest three-bedroom house with poor flow and a family room tucked away in the basement, it is now a bright, spacious, and modern home designed for family life with an enhanced connection to the outdoors.
Working closely with the clients and architect, we completed a renovation that included a two-storey rear addition and a newly built third-floor level, expanding the home to create a stronger sense of space and flow. The third floor offers a peaceful retreat with a spacious bedroom, ensuite, and private balcony — a serene spot overlooking the treetops, designed for the family's daughter to unwind, study, and grow in a dedicated space solely for her.
The newly added family room on the ground floor features expansive aluminum-framed sliding glass doors that flood the space with natural light and open directly to the backyard, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor connection. A striking porcelain slab fireplace surround serves as the room’s centerpiece, blending modern sophistication with understated elegance.
Throughout the main living spaces, white oak herringbone flooring adds visual warmth and character, along with custom millwork crafted to showcase the family’s treasures. Meanwhile, the original walnut flooring from the ground and second levels was carefully repurposed for the new third floor, enhancing the project’s sustainability and adding a touch of history.
This renovation blends contemporary style with timeless charm, meeting modern needs while reflecting the family’s love for simplicity. Thoughtfully crafted to be a sanctuary for family life, each detail has been meticulously executed to ensure a tranquil and elegant space.
